Thomas N. Young
Tom Young is a founding shareholder with the firm's Troy office. He joined Young Basile in 1974.
Practice Summary:
Mr. Young has nearly 40 years experience in private practice in all aspects of intellectual property law. He has authored nearly 2,000 patents and has successfully represented clients in state and federal courts — including numerous trials — in Michigan, Illinois, Massachusetts, Virginia, Florida, California, Kansas, Texas, South Carolina, New York, Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky, as well as appellate courts such as the Court of Appeals 6th Circuit, 9th Circuit, 11th Circuit and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Most recently he has successfully represented an automotive supplier, ITT Industries (Cooper Standard) in the patent case Honeywell v. ITT Industries Inc., 452 F.3d 1312 (Fed. Cir. 2006).
Industry Experience:
An electrical engineer by training, Mr. Young worked for General Motors Corporation in its Patent Section in both Detroit and Washington D.C.
Representative Clients:
Mr. Young has represented hundreds of clients, including numerous automotive suppliers and a manufacturer of semiconductor equipment.
Professional Activities:
Mr. Young is a member of the Intellectual Property Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan and has served as its Chairman (1977). Mr. Young has also participated as a Member of the Council for Judicial Reform, United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, (1993-1994) and is active in the State Bar of Michigan's Intellectual Property Community Involvement Initiative.
