Mr. Schonberger concentrates his practice on patent prosecution in the software field, namely, in the areas of image and video compression and decompression, video transcoding, image pipeline processing, platform-as-a-service and software-as-a-service cloud computing systems, machine learning models, wearable devices, and internet of things connected device technologies.
Mr. Schonberger provides strategic counseling in prosecuting patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office by: conducting patentability searches; drafting provisional, non-provisional and PCT/national stage applications; and responding to office actions. Mr. Schonberger has significant experience in the continually changing landscape of U.S. patent subject matter eligibility, particularly as it concerns software technologies and systems implemented using software. He routinely studies the newest case law and U.S. Patent and Trademark Office examination guidance to strategically draft patent applications and office action responses to avoid or overcome eligibility rejections.
Mr. Schonberger’s practice also includes: performing clearance studies; conducting due diligence analyses; and providing litigation support, including by developing infringement and invalidity contentions and theories. He works with large, global organizations as well as high-growth companies.
Industry Experience
Prior to joining Young Basile, Mr. Schonberger worked as an intellectual property attorney at a general practice firm where he specialized in patent prosecution while working with a variety of entrepreneurial and established clients. Before beginning his legal career, Mr. Schonberger worked for a leading aerospace company where he developed simulation software for the company’s military research and development division.
