With offices in Silicon Valley and Ann Arbor, Michigan, our firm works with many startups. In fact, we are one of a handful of law firms in the world to operate a business incubator on our premises. In 2009, we started the not-for-profit North Woodward Tech incubator, which is now home to 8 companies. We provide space in the incubator without charge and without regard to whether tenants use our firm. It’s just our way of contributing to the revitalization of Michigan’s economy. Apart form the incubator, we work with many early stage companies. For example, our client Ilumisys came to us as a start-up with a bright idea to replace florescent light tubes with energy efficient LEDs.
Young Basile obtained strategic patents for the company covering its ground-breaking technology. We then designed and implemented a licensing and litigation enforcement campaign. We also successfully handled an interference proceeding. To date, more than a dozen companies around the world are Ilumisys licensees, and the technology developed by Ilumisys is deployed throughout the world.
Working with startups isn’t always easy. Budgets can be tight and advisors need to be highly proactive and strategic. But we thrive on the opportunity to be strategic partners with entrepreneurial clients.
